Curriculum
Fly fishing schools & Fly fishing Guide School
Depending on the specific class size and prior experience of
students the school has the ability to change and to pick up or drop
off certain curriculum aspects. There are distinct differences and
unique skills that are practiced by an Alaska guides and we work
towards your ultimate proficiency in all of them. By the end of this
school you will have all the skills and experienced needed to begin
your new career as a fishing guide, and more specifically an Alaska
fishing guide. There are horror stories that I am sure you have heard
about guiding in Alaska and we are here steer you in the right
direction. Our 20 years of operating in Alaska gives us the ability to
give you information about just about every lodge, outfitting
business, and specific region in Alaska. Being an Alaska Fishing guide
takes more then just waking up in the morning jumping in a boat and
being on the water for 8 hours, then coming back to camp and eating
dinner. Our remote Alaska fishing camp is a modern marvel and it takes
good fishing guides to keep running it but also demands well rounded
outdoorsmen, boaters, mechanics, and people that work well with groups
in a family oriented atmosphere.
We differ from other school that just put you in drift boat with
one of their "weekend warrior" guides and float you down a river.
You will become involved in the every day activities as an Alaska
fishing guide. Our opinion is that you learn by doing, and you will
quickly be put in situations where you have to learn. With safety in
mind first you will learn how a remote Alaska camp is run day to day.
You will shadow our professional guides in all the things that keep
our camp running. From tying off floatplanes that transporting clients
upriver, gas, supplies, and set up of the lodge we call home for five
months.
Job Placement after our fly fishing guide
schools
Once one has the tools to be a well rounded guide, how does one
find employment? Designed by our instructors, guides, and business
school graduates, our job placement is intended to help our students
find employment suited specifically for them. A professional resume,
references, and sample e-mails to potential lodges and outfitters are
constructed. In addition to searching
via the internet for the right employment we work directly with
numerous top lodges and outfitters in Alaska and in the lower 48. It
is important to know that 95% of all guides in Alaska are hired by
March 1st. The process of becoming a professional fishing
or hunting guide takes time and there is no quick fix. What sets our
guide school apart from other is that our company is growing and there
are opportunities to grow with us. Our top guide school graduate for
the 2007 season is guaranteed employment or internship with Alaska Adventures. For
